And his car began to slide
Then the bridge deck shifted and his car was tossed aside
Everything went gray
Fifty, sixty feet
His car plunged into hard ground
Head on and crumpled like a soft aluminum can
The photo’s clear. Anyone in that car’s a dead man
But he made a call then looked around
And dropped the phone on the seat
With a torn shoulder, a broken foot, neck, and collar bone, his thoughts strayed
To leaving and somehow pried
Himself out of the car though his head was banged so hard he almost died
This young warrior walked away
From his smashed car at the base
Of the 35W Bridge, by fate, luck, or grace?
Whatever, he walked away
